Steve Forbert and the Windfall Prophets / Chris Smither DOUBLE BILL
Wednesday, July 29th @ 7pm
RARE PERFORMANCE W/FULL BAND–Over the last 28 years, Steve Forbert has carved out a nice niche for himself. Armed with his harmonicas and pieces of plywood that serve as stomping boards, the Meridian Mississippi man is still packing audiences across the country. His voice, capable at best, is often a vocal version of grimace, squeezing his clever lyrics out in an expressive, yet heartfelt manner.
With 12 albums under his belt, Chris Smither qualifies as a veteran of the music industry. His elegant lyrics are arranged simply, with mostly just his own masterful finger-picking and foot-tapping to accompany him. His music qualifies as folk, but the blues influences are undeniable. His latest album, Leave The Light On, was released on his own record label to critical acclaim, and his single "Origin of Species" made Rolling Stone's '100 Best Songs of 2006' list.

Legends of Chicago Blues featuring
Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin &
The Nighthawks
Friday, August 14 @ 8pm
Pinetop Perkins celebrates his 95th birthday with his friends at Telarc Recordings with a new release Pinetop Perkins and Friends, out June 3rd. There are very few direct ties left to the golden age of post-World War II American blues - that seminal period in the 1940s and '50s, and Grammy Award winner Pinetop Perkins was part of it.
Hubert Sumlin when he plays guitar he takes you to his World of Blues Feeling - from despair to ecstasy, from delicate grace to raw power, from lost to found. Though he's influenced and inspired many of the most famous guitar players, Hubert owns the magic. His style is original and personal and instantly recognizable.
Over the last 30+ years, The Nighthawks have earned a reputation as one of the best and hardest working bands around. They have gotten their widest acclaim for being one of the first and best white boy blues bands of their generation, and for putting on a great live show. They play a wide variety of music that has appeal to a diverse audience, mixing the blues, rock and soul--along with rockabilly and swing.
